GC051 Detectors

The detector senses the effluents from the column and provides a signal which is proportionate to the quantity of each solute or analyte, allowing to perform quantitative analysis. The record of this signals is used to generate the chromatogram.

Flame ionization detector (FID) is the most common detector. Its most outstanding features are its high sensitivity, wide linear range and low detection limits. It is also relatively simple and inexpensive. Other popular detectors are the thermal conductivity detector (TCD) and electron capture detector (ECD).
